General Fine lines and wrinkles
Fine lines and wrinkles can appear anywhere on the face and body and are caused by decreased collagen and elastin, which can occur with age and UV exposure. Wrinkles are a by-product of the aging process. As people age, skin cells divide more slowly, and the middle layer of your skin — the dermis — begins to thin. The dermis has a network of elastin and collagen fibres, which offer support and elasticity. As this network loosens and unravels with time, depressions form on your skin’s surface. Aging skin is also less able to retain moisture, less efficient in secreting oil and slower to heal. All of these factors contribute to the development of wrinkles.
General Sun damage & sun spots
In response to the Sun, skin produces melanin, a dark pigment. The tan affords protection. If the skin becomes “sun-damaged” the production of melanin becomes irregular. Instead of an even tan which declines over time, irregular localised dark pigmentation occurs
General Pitted skin & acne scarring
Acne scars, not to be confused with the dark marks left behind after an acne inflammation, are textural irregularities that form when the skin does not heal. They manifest as enduring depressions on the skin because acne inflammation has damaged the surrounding skin and tissue. There are different types of acne scars, from rolling scars to ice pick and boxcar scars. Whilst these are mainly superficial, larger scars can go into the mid and even lower layers of the skin. Depending upon the severity, the acne scarring can be removed, or significantly reduced
General Pigmentation & melasma
Melasma is a skin pigmentation disorder characterised by dark spots and patches on skin often exposed to the sun. Specifically, it is a disorder of skin cells called melanocytes, which affect pigmentation. Melanocytes produce and store melanin, a brown pigment that gives skin its pigmentation. When these cells are hyperactive, they cause spotting & discoloration and melasma
General Dry / sensitive skin
Dry, sensitive skin on the face can be caused by a combination of factors, including;
Lipid Deficit: Dry skin is often linked to a lack of lipids, which are essential for maintaining the skin's moisture barrier.
Weakened Skin Barrier: The skin's protective barrier can be compromised by factors like harsh cleansers, frequent washing, or environmental stressors, leading to increased sensitivity and dryness.
Environmental Factors: Exposure to dry climates, harsh temperatures, or UV rays can exacerbate dryness and sensitivity.
Skincare Products: Certain ingredients, like sulphates, alcohol, or fragrances can irritate sensitive skin and worsen dryness.
General Redness & rosacea
Rosacea is a long-term skin condition, ranging from mild to severe, which mainly affects the skin of the face, but can also show itself in other places such as the neck. Rosacea is characterised by localised areas of redness, from prolonged and excessive blushing in the face and neck to unsightly facial inflammation
General Unwanted freckles
Freckles are small brown spots on your skin, often in areas that get sun exposure. They form as a result of over production of melanin, which is responsible for skin pigmentation.
General Uneven skin tone
An uneven skin tone is an examples of pigmentation issue, which is caused by sun-damage, melasma, or other medical conditions. All pigmentation issues arise from the production of the dark pigment melanin in the skin
General Enlarged pores
Enlarged facial pores are visible openings on the skin that allow sweat and sebum (oil) to exit from glands onto the surface. Their size is primarily determined by genetics, but several factors make them appear larger:
Excess sebum oil production
Aging – Loss of collagen and elastin reduces skin firmness, making pores appear wider.
Sun damage – UV exposure breaks down collagen and elastin, leading to less skin elasticity.
Melasma
Hyperpigmentation
